Las Vegas with kids: helicopter flight

Our amazing USA RV roadtrip with the kids has almost come to an end.. only three days to go. We will make sure the days to come will be awesome! What’s in our program: enjoying Mandalay Bays enormous pool/ beach, exploring the Las Vegas Strip, shopping at Caesar’s Palace and.. saving the best for last: making a helicopter flight over the Grand Canyon.

Our kids absolutely love the pool at Mandalay Bay. “Pool” doesn’t really cover it. There is a reasons why Mandalays pool has been chosen by Tripadvisor as one of USA’s best pools. With 2.700 tons of sand and 1.6 million gallons of water it’s for sure also one of the biggest pools in the States. The kids like the wave pool, beach and lazy river best. In the evening, when the temperature drops, we are going out to explore the strip. We see a spectacular fire show at Mirage, dancing fountains at Bellagio and the “clouds ceiling” at Caesar’s Palace shopping mall.

We all go to sleep around 10:00PM and get up at 10:00AM, I can get used to this ;). On the very last day of our amazing holiday we have planned our “Grande Finale”: a helicopter flight from Boulder Airport (close to Las Vegas), to Grand Canyon Airport and back again. We haven’t flown in a helicopter yet which makes us all very excited. A minivan takes us from the hotel to Boulder Airport. We are weighed and checked in. After the safety instructions we can board. Floris (3 yr) has his own seat, Lotte (1 yr) sits on Kevin’s lap.We have to put on our headphones and off we go! THIS IS AMAZING!!

We fly over Hoover Dam first, climb over a mountain and descend into the Grand Canyon following the Colorado River. Wow this view makes me feel very tiny. The Grand Canyon is amazing when you are walking or driving through, imagine how it looks from the sky: red mountains, blue lakes, the meandering Colorado River it’s all absolutely stunning.

The helicopter makes a lot of noise, therefore we wear the headphones, nevertheless, both kids are sound asleep on our way from Boulder to Grand Canyon Airport. How do they do that? They are missing all the beautiful views. Luckily they wake up when we land on Grand Canyon Airport. We have a quick break before we take off again. Floris sits next to me in the front seat. He loves it! Somehow he spots several wild animals: polar bears, giraffes, elephants, you name it.;). When we are in Boulder again we all agree this helicopter flight was definitely a once in a lifetime experience. WOW!!

At last it’s time to pack our suitcases, our flight leaves Vegas tomorrow morning. This holiday was fantastic. We will we back very soon!

Tips & Tricks Las Vegas with kids

Mandalay is a perfect hotel for kids: huge pool area, train to the Luxor, shark reef and (little) kids eat for free at the buffet.

Don’t forget to explore the Strip, our kids loved: Mirage’s fire show, Bellagio’s fountains, Caesar’s mall , the minion’s, Mickey’s and Minnie’s on the streets.

If you are able to do a helicopter flight, don’t hesitate! It is such a special experience! Kids till the age of two are free.
