Exploring Thailand with Kids: A Comprehensive Guide

Planning a trip to Thailand with kids? Embarking on a 3-week journey through Thailand can be an exciting adventure, especially when escaping the cold, wet wintery weather back home. This article will guide you through our first trip with two kids, a 7-month-old and a 2-year-old, and provide useful tips for your own family adventure.

Travel Itinerary and Accommodation

Our travel plan begins in Bangkok, where we’ve booked a hotel room with a separate bedroom and a kitchen. From Bangkok, we’ll take the train to the south of Thailand, making several stops along the way. Our journey concludes with a ferry ride to Koh Samui, where we’ll stay for a week before flying back to Bangkok. We’ll spend one more night in Bangkok before returning to Amsterdam. Sounds like an amazing trip, right?

Preparation is Key

Good preparation can make your trip much easier. Here are some things to check before you go:

  • Do the kids have passports?
  • Do the kids need any additional vaccinations? Check out KLM Health Services for more information.
  • If travelling with a baby, ensure you make a reservation for a baby basket in advance.

Packing Essentials

Of course, a thorough packing list is also crucial. Here’s what should definitely be in your suitcase:

  • Mosquito net for the stroller: Check out this one from Toys R Us.
  • Hats
  • UV protection shirts: We recommend these from Patagonia.
  • Mosquito repellant for babies/young kids
  • Baby monitor

And don’t forget these hand luggage essentials:

  • Baby carrier
  • iPad containing videos and games for the kids
  • Spare clothes

Shopping and Supplies

In the large American-style supermarkets in Thailand, you can find everything you need for your baby/kids: baby food, diapers, wet baby towels, and more. To be safe, I brought my own baby milk powder as my youngest can be quite picky. I also packed some swim diapers for immediate poolside fun.

Entertainment for Kids

There are plenty of engaging books available for kids about flying and travelling abroad. I ordered one for my older child, a story about a little girl visiting Thailand. He absolutely loved it!

With all this preparation, we’re ready to embark on our journey to Thailand with kids. Stay tuned for more updates!
