Top 10 Kid-Friendly Activities in Bangkok
Every journey through Thailand typically begins in Bangkok. Over the past few weeks, I’ve received numerous inquiries about the best activities for children in Bangkok. So, for everyone planning (or dreaming of) a holiday to Thailand, here’s a top 10 list of the most exciting attractions and things to do in Bangkok with kids:
1. Discover the Underwater Wonders at Sealife
Like many cities, Bangkok also boasts an impressive aquarium. Located in the basement of the luxurious Siam Paragon shopping mall, Sealife is a hit with kids. They’ll love getting up close and personal with the fish, especially the sharks. However, be prepared as the entrance fee for a family can be quite steep.
2. Climb and Scramble at Lumpini Park
Free and loads of fun, Lumpini Park is a green oasis in the heart of Bangkok. In addition to a small lake for boating and plenty of green spaces, the park features multiple playgrounds for kids to explore. It’s the perfect place for children to burn off energy. On some days, yoga lessons or running classes may make the park busier, but there’s always enough space to find a quiet spot. And don’t be surprised if a huge Monitor lizard ambles past!
3. Experience Bangkok on Two Wheels
Regardless of whether you’re visiting Bangkok with kids or solo, a bicycle ride is an experience you shouldn’t miss. Over the years, we’ve explored almost all the bicycle trails offered by Co van Kessel, and they’ve never failed to impress. The longer routes, in particular, lead you to the quieter, greener, and more spacious parts of Bangkok. Older kids can cycle independently, while the younger ones can ride on the back of your bike or in a carrier. It’s a truly delightful experience!
4. Step into Various Roles at KidZania
KidZania offers a fun and educational day out, located conveniently in Siam Paragon. Here, kids can role-play various professions, providing them with a unique learning experience.
5. Navigate Bangkok in a Vibrant Tuk-Tuk
When it comes to transportation, our kids found the tuk-tuk rides in Bangkok the most enjoyable. As a result, we frequently used them for getting around. A tip: Pay the driver a bit extra to ensure a direct route to your destination without unnecessary stops. This is also a great opportunity to snap a quick picture of your child behind the steering wheel of a parked tuk-tuk. Don’t forget to visit one of the city’s child-friendly rooftop bars while exploring the city!
Did you know there are also many free things to do in Bangkok?
6. Embark on a Train Adventure
Bangkok is likely either the starting point or the final stop of your journey, with the exploration of Thailand’s beauty in between. Whether you’re heading North or South, the train is an excellent mode of transportation for long distances in Thailand. If you’re traveling to Chiang Mai, the night train offers quite an adventure! Board in the evening, and after a few hours, your seat transforms into a small bed. By the time you wake up, you’ll be nearing your destination in Chiang Mai.
7. Unleash Your Energy at Funarium
Funarium is an indoor playground where kids can expend their energy and engage in creative activities. For older kids, the climbing wall offers an exciting challenge.
8. Marvel at the Reclining Buddha at Wat Pho
Wat Pho, home to the reclining Buddha, is a cultural gem in Bangkok. The city’s numerous temples can spark children’s interest and imagination. Our kids were particularly fascinated by the enormous Buddha statue at this temple. To prepare your children for the trip, consider reading them the book Ikke in Thailand.
9. Enjoy a Day at Siam City Park
If you’re a fan of theme parks, Siam City Park is a must-visit. It features various sections like Small World for younger kids, Family World, Fantasy World, X-Zone for thrill-seekers, and a refreshing water park.
10. Discover The Golden Mountain (Wat Saket)
Locally known as “The Golden Mountain,” Wat Saket is a temple situated on a small hill. The climb may be challenging for little ones, so consider bringing a baby/child carrier. The path winds through a beautiful garden adorned with flowers, plants, waterfalls, and Buddha statues. Engage your kids in a game of “spot and count the Buddha statues” to make the climb more enjoyable. The temple and the stunning view from the top are well worth the effort.
