Continuing Our Hong Kong City Trip: Day 5 & 6

Today, we bid farewell to the Dorsett Wanchai Hotel and welcome the Hyatt Regency Sha Tin hotel as we continue our Hong Kong city trip!

Day 5: Leisurely Start and Souvenir Shopping

On day 5 of our Hong Kong city trip, we enjoyed a late start, waking up at 10:00 am. We decided to skip the hotel breakfast and instead, headed to the Brunch & Supper Club for a hearty meal. Our breakfast choices ranged from peanut butter sandwiches and tea for the kids, to omelets and cappuccinos, and scrambled eggs with salmon and spinach paired with fresh orange juice.

With the remainder of our trip spent outside the city, we decided to hunt for souvenirs. Our haul included a Styrofoam plane, a “real” Chinese dragon, an inflatable band for the pool, and a porcelain “waving cat”.

Checking into the Hyatt Regency Sha Tin

Post our shopping spree, we took a taxi to our new hotel, the Hyatt Regency Sha Tin, located in the New Territories close to the Chinese University. The hotel, a tall building with over 500 rooms, offered us a spacious suite with two bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, a separate sitting room, and a kitchen. The view from our room was breathtaking, overlooking the river and the apartment buildings in Hong Kong.

With the weather being perfect, we spent the afternoon at the hotel’s pool, followed by a room service treat of pizza and fries.

Day 6: Delicious Breakfast and Creative Activities

Day 6 started early at 08:30 am. The hotel’s breakfast spread was extensive and delicious, offering everything from pancakes, fried eggs, fruit, vegetables, yoghurt, and dim sum to a simple peanut butter sandwich. Post breakfast, we visited Camp Hyatt, the hotel’s kids club, where Floris and Lotte enjoyed painting plastic keychains and decorating their own bags.

Award-Winning Lunch at Sha Tin 18

For lunch, we dined at Sha Tin 18, one of the hotel’s five restaurants. Serving Dongguan and North Chinese cuisine, the restaurant lived up to its multiple awards with a delicious meal of dim sum, Peking duck, a vegetable dish, a wok dish with beef, and a special pudding for dessert.

Afternoon Swim and Exploring the Neighborhood

Post lunch, we spent the afternoon swimming and exploring the neighborhood. There were plenty of activities to choose from, including visiting the monastery of the 10,000 Buddhas, cycling along the river, visiting Tai Po, catching the ferry to one of the islands, or visiting the monkeys of the Kam Shan Country Park.

Our Hong Kong city trip is nearing its end, with our last night spent at the Disney Hotel. We look forward to two whole days in Disneyland!
